Congratulations to Logan Cutlip and Delaney Mongold on being named the Brittany Lam-Kelly Cogsdale Character Counts recipients. Also, a huge thanks and congratulations to Mr. Ralph Bolgiano on being named the Volunteer of the Year for Fulks Run Elementary School!
Both 2nd grade classes spent time this morning with an economics by producing Chex Mix and chocolate-dipped pretzels to sell to staff members. During this activity, some of the skills/topics we covered were producers/consumers, goods, scarcity, income (students were paid for their work), economic choices/opportunity cost (students had to choose how to spend their pay), donations (to charity and to the school board), measurement skills, following directions and good hygiene. Please note, students with coughs or those who were not feeling well were given the day off with pay (sick day). All students helping wore gloves.
We will be making a donation to charity with the funds earned from the sale of the Chex Mix and pretzels. At this point, the Salvation Army and SPCA have been mentioned.
Tonight, Thursday, January 29th the RCPS School Board will hold their meeting here at Fulks Run Elementary! You have probably heard your child talk about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activities this year. We are very excited to be having a mobile STEM lab come to our school for a day! This is a hands-on learning lab for students and we will need volunteers to help with the stations.
